Introduction and History

Kurukshetra University established the University Institute of Engineering and Technology in 2004 to provide quality education in selected engineering disciplines at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Kurukshetra University is already conducting a B.Tech. programme in Instrumentation by the Department of USIC successfully since 1995 and the students passing out from this department are placed in well reputed organizations. The University decided to start B.Tech. programme in three more disciplines, namely, Biotechnology, Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering from session 2004-05. The academic programme for these courses are to be managed by the already existing, well-established postgraduate departments of Biotechnology, Computer Science & Applications and Electronic Science which offer postgraduate and research degrees.

On the basis of the academic strength and considerable expertise available in these departments, it was appropriate on the part of the University to start B.Tech. degree programme in these technologically important disciplines of Biotechnology, Computer Science & Engineering , Electronics & Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Also, the Institute is offering opportunity to improve qualification in highly demanding areas by offering M.Tech. degree courses. It was decided to start two M.Tech. degree programme in Digital image and Speech Processing and Software Engineering. Also seeing the scarcity of quality academicians the institute has plans to start Modular M-tech’s and integrated Ph.d. Programs for working teachers and professionals in several disciplines from the next session. There is an urgent need for providing excellent opportunity to meritorious students of Haryana State to study engineering courses in highly demanding areas of Biotechnology, Electronics & Communication , Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The endeavor of the University Institute of Engineering and Technology is to provide high quality education in these demanding engineering disciplines to the best students of this state under the able supervision of the senior faculty of the existing departments.

The University has constructed a separate building for the University Institute of Engineering and Technology for the engineering courses with all amenities and modern laboratories, workshop, library and classroom facilities, The existing facilities in the departments are also being used to provide teaching support. Well-qualified and dedicated faculty has been recruited as per the requirement of the courses. The University campus offers excellent environment for the overall development of the personality and leadership qualities of the students.

Management and Administration

University Institute of Engineering and Technology is a university managed institute having university’s academic council to take decision on academic matters and executive council of the university to take decisions on administrative matters. The institute’s B-tech courses are fully self financed and the M.Tech. courses are being run with partial financial support from the World Bank Scheme for quality improvement in technical education.
